Parts of a sentence
When we speak or write, we use words.
We use these words in groups.
Such a group of words is called a sentence.
A sentence must have a proper meaning.
It must give some information about something or someone.
For example, Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall.
This sentence gives you a lot of information.
1. Who are we talking about? Humpty Dumpty.
2. What was he doing? He was sitting.
3. Where was he sitting? He was sitting on a wall.
A sentence may be divided into many parts.
Each part is either a word or a small group of words.
And each of those words, give us particular information.
For example,
· A person, place, animal or thing is called a naming word or NOUN.
· Words used in the place of nouns to avoid repetition are called PRONOUNS.
· The words used to describe the nouns or pronouns are called ADJECTIVES.
· VERBS or action words tell about the work being done by a noun or a pronoun.
· The ADVERBS describe an action that is, the verb.
· Nouns are linked to other words using PREPOSITIONS.
· CONJUNCTIONS are words used to join any two sentences.
