Whenever we wish to describe an event, person or activity we need to make sentences that correctly describe them. We have been learning how to make sentences that are correct with respect to grammar.
But just making correct sentences is not enough. We need to make sentences that correctly show what we wish to describe. In this exercise we shall make a sentence that describes a picture.
So how do we do that? 1. Look at the picture carefully. 2. What is the action that is happening? This is the verb. 3. Does it show how it is hapenning? This is the adverb. 4. Find out who is doing it? This would be a noun and a subject. 5. What is the result of this action or on what is this action being done? This is the object. 6. Keep in mind the use of articles, prepositions and conjunctions to join words. 7. Make a sentence that best describes the picture. 8. Check for grammatical errors! Done!!
(You can add some thing from your imagination related to the picture to make it even more interesting!) Lets do one example. It is given in the right column.
Exercise 1 Make a sentence describing the picture.
What is the action? A violin is being played. Who is playing it? A man, wearing a black coat is playing it. What does the violin look like? It is brown in colour. Now how about putting some imagination here?! Do you think he is playing a nice tune? Yes? Say it then. Now let us make our sentence. The man wearing a black coat is playing a beautiful tune on a brown violin.
