Pronoun
I assume that you have understood nouns very well.
Nouns are the names of all things around us.
Like, rain, clouds, umbrella, tea, sandwich, flower, garden, house, etc.
If I ask you to describe a boy called Raju, you will need to make sentences where you will write the word ‘Raju’, again and again. It is like this :
1. Raju is a boy.
2. Raju is 10 years old.
3. Raju lives with his parents and sister.
4. Raju goes to school.
5. Raju studies in class 4.
6. Raju is a good boy.
7. Raju likes to draw pictures.
Do you find anything strange in this ?
Let me tell you. Repeating the word Raju in every sentence, makes it sound very silly and boring. So, to make it sound better, we need to replace the word ‘Raju’ with another word. Raju is a person (boy), so we may use ‘He’ in place of Raju. Then the sentences would sound like this:
1. Raju is a boy.
2. He is 10 years old.
3. He lives with his parents and sister.
4. He goes to school.
5. He studies in class 4.
6. He is a good boy.
7. He likes to draw pictures.
Doesn’t this sound better ?
What did you observe in the second group of sentences ?
