affirmative and negative sentences
The word ‘affirmative’ means something which is a ‘YES’.
A sentence which does not tell a ‘NO’, is an Affirmative sentence.
It may also be called a Positive sentence.
And a sentence that tells you that something IS NOT, is a Negative sentence.
A negative sentence normally contains negative words like, no, not, never, no one, nobody, or a negative verb like, is not (isn’t), cannot (can’t), will not (won’t).
Ashok is running. (Affirmative) Ashok is not walking. (Negative)
We should tell the truth. (Affirmative) We should never tell lies. (Negative)
My mother is reading a book. (Affirmative) My mother is not watching TV. (Negative)
The box is empty. (Affirmative) There is nothing in the box. (Negative)
